A book for the moviegoers, too.

I could hardly put this book down. It all seemed to me the exposition of good, usable, sensible, pertinent---and most of all simple---concepts. Your Handbook is certainly a very clear setting out of the actor's basics. What's more I am not a film actor or ever intend to be one; but as a writer, I found much to consider in your book that is helpful. I thought your little book was well written, clear and amusing---a delight to read and the rouser of advantageous thoughts.

A path to character creation.

To the point approach without a lot of fluff to make the book longer. The Film Actors Handbook is a step by step approach to creating a character that is not only believable, but makes you care about them. The writers experience with acting comes out. An effective process is detailed with the dynamic approach to acting described.

The Film Actor's Handbook Review

Vint's book is far and away the most clear, concise book about acting that I've read so far -- even clearer than Michael Caine's, which I loved. It's also a fun read. I read it straight through and laughed out loud constantly. My best friend loved it also, and she's not even an actress. This book is both entertaining and informative. Awesome book! 5 stars

The Film Actor's Handbook (excerpt)

Locating and utilizing an individual’s hotbuttons is a big part of an actor's homework. These hotbuttons are very personal, and no instructor should intrude on an actor's privacy by asking him what they represent, but here's a suggestion on how to find a couple.

Ask yourself:

  1. What is the best phone call that I could get?
  2. What is the worst phone call that I could get?

In most cases the answers that you give are your reasons for getting out of bed in the morning. These answers define what's important to you; they are in many ways the engine that drives you throughout your day. To incorporate these things into your work as an actor is your job. That is what you get paid for.

Just as these things are the engine that drives you through your day, these same things will be the engine that drives you through a script -- that gives you the force that you need when you go toe to toe with a strong personality, or when fighting for a cause. A movie is not everyday life -- it's a two hour compression of highly intense experiences. That's why it's mandatory that an actor know himself and how to internalize.
